[문화] 명곡은 살아있다 1편 - Bohemian Rhapsody : Queen

명곡이 살아있다 1편은 바로 보헤미안 랩소디입니다. 아마 퀸을 모르는 사람이라 하더라도 (아마 모르는 사람이 있을까 싶지만, 그래도 세상은 넓기 때문에, 모르는 사람이 있을 수도 있다고 생각합니다.) 보헤미안 랩소디는 한 번쯤은 들어보지 않을까 싶습니다. 특히 그 강렬한 후반부는 한번 들으면 잊지 못하는 인상을 심어주기 때문입니다. 보헤미안 랩소디(Bohemian Rhapsody)는 영국 출신 록밴드 퀸의 대표곡 중 하나입니다. 1975년 발표한 네 번째 정규 앨범 <A Night at the Opera>의 수록곡으로 앨범 발매 전 싱글로 선 발매되었습니다. 그 후에 영국 싱글 차트에서 9주 연속 1위를 차지하며 3개월 만에 100만장 이상의 판매고를 올렸습니다. 프레디 머큐리가 작사/작곡한 이 곡은 아카펠라, 발라드, 오페라, 하드 록등 전혀 다른 장르들을 조합한 실험적 구성이였습니다. 그러나 이 곳은 대중적으로 엄청난 성공을 거두었고 퀸이 세계적인 밴드의 반열에 오르는 데 결정적 역할을 하였습니다. 대한민국에서는 "Mama, just killed a man"이라는 가사때문에 1989년까지 금지곡으로 지정되어 있었던 반면, 이슬람 국가인 이란에서는 아랍어로 "알라신의 이름으로"를 뜻하는 "Bismillah"라는 가사 때문에 몇 안 되는 방송허용된 서양 악곡이 되었습니다. 또 이 곡에서 세계 최초로 도입된 선구적인 홍보 영상(promotional video)은 현대 뮤직 비디오의 지평을 열었다고 평가를 받습니다. 이 곳은 이후 퀸의 모든 공연에서 빠지지 않는 레퍼토리로 들어갔으며, 현재까지도 전 세계에서 매우 사랑받는 노래 중 하나입니다.
